Introduction
For this biology project we choose 2 organ systems to show how they work together and independently. Then we had to make a model showing the function of the sytems together and separately.
Presentation
Model
The water bottles represent the two chambers of the heart. The tubes represent blood vessels that are carrying blood and nutrients to the muscles. The rubber bands represent muscles in the body. The blue rubber bands are smooth muscles and the green rubber bands are skeletal muscles. The yellow rubber bands are cardiac muscles. The white pipes are bones that are attached with skeletal muscles.
Concepts
Circulatory System - an organ system that permits blood to circulate and transport nutrients throughout the body
Muscular System - an organ system consisting of skeletal, smooth and cardiac muscles. It permits movement of the body, maintains posture, and circulates blood throughout the body.
Smooth Muscles - muscle tissue in which the contractile fibrils are not highly ordered, occurring in the gut and other internal organs and not under voluntary control.
Skeletal Muscles - a muscle that is connected to the skeleton to form part of the mechanical system that moves the limbs and other parts of the body.
Cardiac Muscles - a specialized form of striated muscle occurring in the hearts of vertebrates.
Heart - a hollow muscular organ that pumps the blood through the circulatory system by rhythmic contraction and dilation
Lungs - each of the pair of organs situated within the rib cage, consisting of elastic sacs with branching passages into which air is drawn, so that oxygen can pass into the blood and carbon dioxide be removed.
Blood - the red liquid that circulates in the arteries and veins of humans and other vertebrate animals, carrying oxygen to and carbon dioxide from the tissues of the body

Reflection
This project was one of the better ones so far this year. I had a great group that worked well together and contributed. One thing that was a challenge was the sealing of the pipes to the water bottles. We needed something that wouldnt leak but we didnt have any caulk. We ended up using hot glue. We had to reapply a couple times when there were leaks but it worked out ok in the end. We created a pretty good presentation beacuase we did a really good job in the beginning gathering facts and data about our two organ systems.
